Isabel Carlos

Isabel Carlos is curator and art critic. Isabel Carlos has held several prominent positions, including advisor for the exhibition area of Lisboa'94 - European Capital of Culture. She was co-founder and sub-director of the Institute of Contemporary Art, under the Ministry of Culture (1996-2001), having organized, among other activities, the Portuguese representations at the Venice Biennale (2001) and the São Paulo Biennale (1996 and 1998). She was a member of the juries of the Venice Biennale (2003) and the Turner Prize (2010), among others, and artistic director of the Sydney Biennale (2004), curator of the Portuguese Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2005) and the 9th Sharjah Biennale, United Arab Emirates (2009). She was also director of CAM - Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation from 2009 to 2015.
